How long does it take to get ISO 9001 certified?
Using our full-service ISO 9001 Certification Service, a small company could get certified in 1-2 months. Our Do-It-Yourself ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit is a bit slower but actually it depends much on the efforts you put in, the size of your company and the complexity of your operations. For a small company 3-4 months is doable.
How much does it cost to get ISO 9001 certified?
It depends on the approach you are taking and the registrar you select. Small companies that implement ISO 9001 in-house using our toolkit can get certified for as low as USD 4,000.00, including the cost of our materials and fees for the registrar and certification audit. If you prefer our consultants do it all, a small company should budget about USD 18,000.00, again with the cost of the registrar and audit included.
What are the benefits of ISO 9001 certification?
Implemented correctly, ISO 9001 certification can lead to significant benefits in the following areas:
Operational improvement
ISO 9001 is an excellent tool for developing good business processes and systems.
Quality improvements are an inevitable consequence of this.
Remember, ISO 9001 was developed as a business tool to improve companies' performance.
Marketing
ISO 9001 certification is an excellent marketing tool due to its global reputation.
Being ISO 9001 accredited shows your customers that you take quality seriously, that you are proactive and put your customers' satisfaction first.
Customer requirements
If your company provides products or services to other companies or government departments, you may need to get ISO 9001 certified.
An increasing number of customers may refuse to do business with you unless you're ISO 9001 certified.
What's the best way to brief the boss on how – and if – we should proceed with ISO 9001?
First, give an overview of ISO 9001, what it is and what it means to set up a quality management system.
Next, focus on the benefits that your company could achieve through ISO 9001, ranging from operational benefits to marketing advantages, increased sales, and ultimately higher profitability.
Finally you'll need to explain what it takes to get certified, what the costs are, and how long it would take.
You can prepare yourself well with the information available in our Learning Center.
A good starting point is our article "What is ISO 9001?" which also includes a video.
The easiest way to give your boss a complete picture, including how ISO 9001 could benefit your company and what implementation involves, is our concise online ISO 9001:2015 Foundation Training.
How do we best prepare for the certification audit?
The best preparation will be your internal audits; they will give everybody an understanding of how an audit is conducted.
However, there are several issues that external auditors typically hone in on; one of them is document control.
Preparing for the certification audit should, therefore, always include a review of all work areas to ensure that there are no uncontrolled documents, including sticky notes.
If you are using one of our certification solutions, you will be well prepared for the certification audit; we will, for example, address typical auditor questions.
Another effective yet inexpensive preparation tool is our video course, How To Deal With External Auditors; it's available in both DVD and Network/LMS versions.
Being a start up company, will we need several months of objective evidence before we can attempt certification?
Registrars usually require 2-3 months worth of records so that they can verify that the ISO 9001 system is properly implemented.
As you are completing various implementation tasks, you are already generating some records.
All registrars are different, so be sure to discuss your circumstances with your registrar first.
Clients using our full-service ISO 9001 Certification Service are able to get certified in significantly less time due to our reputation and professional relationships.
What is the difference between ISO 9001, ISO 9000 and ISO 9001:2015?
None!
It's common – though technically incorrect – to use all of these terms interchangeably to describe the current version of the ISO 9001 standard.
Prior to December 2000 there were ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 standards; all were generally referred to as ISO 9000.
Eventually these standards were merged into ISO 9001.
As for ISO 9001:2015, the appended '2015' indicates the year of revision.
The most current revision was published in 2015.
What is the difference between ISO 9001 certification and ISO 9001 accreditation?
There's no difference. Both terms mean that an independent organization confirms (certifies or accredits) that your ISO 9001 quality management system meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. This confirmation is evidenced by a certificate and may be referred to as ISO 9001 certification or ISO 9001 accreditation. Another common term is ISO 9001 registration.
I am not sure if I should get certified to ISO 9000, ISO 9001 or ISO 9004?
ISO 9000:2015 is a set of guidelines that describe the fundamental concepts of a quality management system.
ISO 9004:2018 offers guidelines for enhancing an organization's ability to achieve sustained success.
You cannot get certified to either of these standards.
The only one of these 3 standards you can get certified to is ISO 9001:2015.
Who wrote the ISO 9001 standard?
The standard was created and written by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). For more information visit their website, www.iso.org
We are a small distribution company with 3 employees. Will we need thousands of pages of control processes?
No. A small distribution company like yours will have only a few business processes, so your ISO 9001 documentation will be limited. You are still required to have a quality policy and procedures (though you can exclude the design section and several other sections that don't apply to you), but you'll probably only need a few work instructions. Consider using our ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit for easy Do-It-Yourself ISO 9001 implementation. The toolkit is based on our 'simplified' approach so you can be sure your ISO 9001 system will be lean and efficient.
We got certified for marketing reasons - and ended up with an awkward and bureaucratic ISO 9001 system. What can we do to make it useful for our operations?
Your situation is not unusual.
Many companies seek ISO 9001 certification solely for marketing reasons and have some consultant do it for them; these companies often get certified but at the cost of poor operational performance, ill-fitting procedures, and extensive bureaucracy.
We recommend you consider our ISO 9001 Documentation Toolkit.
It's specifically designed to improve an underperforming or outdated ISO 9001 system and turn it into an efficient business tool.
You will be able to redefine and streamline your existing ISO system while maintaining the parts that work well for you.
Alternatively, one of our experts could virtually or physically visit your company, analyze your situation and guide your improvement efforts.
Depending on your company size and complexity, consider booking one of our consultants for 1-5 days.
I don't have a clue where to start. Can I still use one of your ISO 9001 certification products?
Yes, of course.
Most of our clients are in a similar situation.
And our solutions are designed for people new to ISO.
The easiest way, of course, is our full-service ISO 9001 Certification Service.
Our consultant will do it all for you - but in a meaningful way - so you can just observe the project proceed.
But you can actually do it yourself with our ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit.
It's not difficult to use as it's complete with all the tools you need.
It's also very well explained and includes training and a step-by-step guide that "takes you by the hand" through the entire project.
Even if you could do it all by yourself, you or the people around you may still lack confidence at the start of the project.
In this case, one of our ISO 9001 consultants could instantly lower the initial hurdle by performing the Gap Analysis & Implementation Plan.
From there, you'll just complete the project using the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit.
Is your ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit suitable to implement ISO 9001 at a small manufacturing business?
Yes, our Do-It-Yourself toolkit can be configured for manufacturing companies. Configuration is done prior to purchase and makes the toolkit exceptionally easy to use and adopt to your company's unique situation.
Once I order the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit, will it be clear how to get started?
Yes, the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit comes with a step-by-step guide, the ISO 9001:2015 Certification Guide. Please start with this guide and follow it through. It will also explain when and how to use the various materials and courses included in the toolkit.
I am not sure if I need the ISO 9001 Documentation Toolkit or the Certification Toolkit.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve.
If you want to set up ISO 9001 for the first time and get certified, the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit is the correct product.
It includes everything you need, including documentation templates, guidance, training and more.
If, on the other hand, you already have an ISO 9001 QMS in place which you seek to improve, then consider the ISO 9001 Documentation Toolkit.
This kit includes lean and efficient documentation templates to replace or augment your existing procedures and forms, thus improving the foundation of your QMS.
Can I combine your On-Site ISO 9001 Startup Package with your Certification Toolkit?
Yes. All our consultant services can be combined with the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit as they apply the same simplified approach as all our products.
But remember, the toolkit is designed to be a stand-alone solution without the need to add other products and services.
Nevertheless, if you would like an onsite consultant to get you started, prepare an implementation plan, and provide custom training, our On-Site Startup Package is ideal.
Are the prices for your consulting services really "all inclusive" or do I need to be prepared for extra charges?
All our services are truly "all inclusive" – there are NO extra charges for materials, travel time, travel expenses, weekend stays, admin fees, surcharges etc that you may find with other consultants. We always use clear, upfront pricing without surprises.
On how many computers can I use MyDraw if I purchase just one license?
A single software license is valid for a single computer only. However, you may transfer your license from one computer to another easily. All you need to do is deactivate the license on the computer you won't need it on and re-activate it on the new computer. Activating and deactivating a license is easy; you can do it from the File->About menu in MyDraw.
I was using the 30-day trial version of MyDraw, but now I bought the license. Do I need to uninstall the trial version?
No, just unlock the trial version with your password (which you received immediately after your purchase) by opening the program and going to File->About.
Many training providers use a computer-generated voice or foreign instructor with heavy accent. How about 9001Simplified?
Our professional e-Learning instructor speaks clear American English without accent. You'll understand him easily and enjoy listen to his lectures.
How do I know where I am in the course? How can I skip to a different lesson?
When you are logged into the course (My Account > My Courses), you'll see the entire course content. Completed lessons are marked as such. You can always go back to completed lessons but you cannot skip course content that you haven't completed yet as all lessons must be taking in the given order.
What happens if there is a problem when taking the courses? Is there support available after office hours?
Yes, we offer customer support by phone and email 24/7.
What happens if I get disconnected from the internet while taking the course?
Our system will remember the lesson during which you were disconnected. Once your internet is back on, simply login again. You will be taken to the lesson you were studying at the time you got disconnected.
Do I need a high-speed connection to the internet?
No. Our online training works just as well on low-bandwidth connections, so you can take your course in areas with limited connectivity. The training experience is the same no matter if you have a high-speed internet connection in your office, or if you use a slow connection while traveling.
Does the ISO 9001:2015 Auditor course also cover lead auditor training?
No, our ISO 9001 auditor training is designed for internal auditors who wish to learn about ISO 9001:2015 and auditing, but don't need to lead an audit team or require a lead auditor certificate. However, our ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor Certification Training does cover lead auditor training.
Are your online courses accredited?
Yes, our implementation, auditor and lead auditor courses have been audited, are certified by Exemplar Global, and include Competency Units. Exemplar Global doesn't have an accreditation scheme for foundation, executive and manager courses. However, these courses meet the same high standards – as you would expect from an Exemplar Global Certified Training Provider and Examiner.
Are the prices for your custom onsite training really "all inclusive" or do I need to be prepared for extra charges?
The displayed prices for all our onsite courses are truly "all inclusive" – there are NO extra charges for certificates, materials, travel time, travel expenses, weekend stays, admin fees, surcharges etc that you may find with other training providers. We always use clear, upfront pricing without surprises.
I am not sure, should I choose onsite or virtual/remote training?
The course content is the same for both onsite and remote training. We have much experience in both variations and can make both equally effective.
Companies often decide based on cost (remote training is less expensive), based on corporate culture (some companies are uncomfortable with screen-based training), and based on the location of the learners (a workforce spread out over several locations will benefit from remote training). Also, our onsite training is only available in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.
What are video courses?
Our video courses are multimedia video presentations that teach ISO 9001 topics in an engaging and entertaining way. Video courses are available as inexpensive DVDs or as Network/LMS version to upload to your LMS, corporate network or corporate intranet. The DVDs are ideally shown to groups of employees during meetings, but can also be viewed individually. The Network/LMS version allows for integration in your LMS so that individuals can take the training.
Do you offer a license that allows us to add a video course and learning guide to our LMS or intranet?
Yes, we offer such licenses for both the video course and the accompanying learning guide.
The Network/LMS version of a video course (which includes the learning guide) allows you to upload the course and learning guide to your LMS, your corporate network or your corporate intranet for the purpose of making the course available to company employees (restricted to the same company/organization) no matter where they are located.
The price of such a license is USD 1,450.00 per video course.
If you previously purchased the physical DVD in order to evaluate the course, we will deduct its price from the cost of the Network/LMS version during checkout.
Upon purchase of a Network/LMS version, we will provide you with the course in MP4 format and the learning guide in PDF format.
Most modern LMS allow for conversion and import of the MP4 and PDF formats, but you may wish to check with your IT personnel first.
You may also purchase the Network/LMS version of a learning guide without purchasing the video course.
The Network/LMS version of a learning guide allows you to upload that particular guide to your LMS, your corporate network or your corporate intranet for the purpose of making the guide available to company employees (restricted to the same company/organization) no matter where they are located.
The price of such a license is USD 149.00 per learning guide.
Upon purchase of the license we will provide the learning guide in PDF format.
You may choose between physical and Network/LMS version during checkout.
Am I allowed to copy your DVD to my company's intranet or file server?
Copying a DVD would be a violation of our copyright. However, we offer an Network/LMS version to upload a particular video course to your corporate network for the purpose of making it available to company employees (of the same company/organization) no matter where they are located. The cost of such a license is USD 1,450.00 per video course including learning guide. Please contact us if you are interested.
Am I allowed to show a DVD in a webinar or video conference at my company?
No, that would be a violation of our copyright.
With each DVD you acquire the right to show the course at one physical location for one company/organization.
If you want to show the course at remote sites, please purchase additional DVDs.
You may also consider our Network/LMS version which allows you to use the course in company-internal webinars or video conferences, or upload the course to your corporate network for the purpose of making it available to company employees (of the same company/organization) no matter where they are located.
The cost of such a license is USD 1,450.00 per video course.
You may choose the Network/LMS version during checkout.
I noticed that the auditing video course is 30 minutes while the online ISO 9001 internal auditor course is several hours. What am I missing?
These courses are very different courses in terms of teaching method, learning objectives and content.
The online course is an interactive course that includes quizzes.
It's an intensive course that provides comprehensive training in all aspects relevant to internal auditors, including all ISO 9001 requirements.
The course is taken by individuals.
The video training, on the other hand, is a multimedia presentation; the quizzes are included separately in the learning guide and taken after watching the video.
The objective of the video training is to provide an overview of internal auditing and teach auditing skills in general rather than focus on ISO 9001 requirements.

Your consultant will be available to you on regular business days.
How can I get your e-Consulting service without purchasing the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit?
Free e-Consulting is only available as part of the ISO 9001 Certification Toolkit. However, we offer an ISO 9001 Consulting Service that can be used stand-alone or combined with any of our products. It's available remotely and on-site.
Do your customer service representatives have a background in ISO 9001?

The package includes excellent documentation, instructions and training courses, which is sufficient for problem-free ISO 9001 implementation. Most companies find it so easy that they don't need our assistance. However, free e-consulting is available if required.
